A New York-style bagel shop will soon open in downtown Boise.

Goldstein’s Bagels and Bialys will replace the former Kiwi Shake and Bake restaurant at 611 S. 8th St., near the Boise Library.

Owner and baker Jamie Goldstein is originally from New York. Goldstein says she began working in a bagel shop at age 14 and is excited to bring her take on bagels to Boise.

“We’re really excited to do it the way it’s supposed to be done and we feel like almost nowhere out west has it,” Goldstein said. “We feel Boise needs bagels.”

A start, then expansion

In the beginning, Goldstein’s will offer a variety of bagels, bialys, cream cheeses, smoked cold fish, and bagel sandwiches. Customers can also enjoy classic New York-style drinks like an old-fashion egg cream.

“We are going to have an old-school soda fountain that will be like a seltzer tap,” Goldstein said. “We’ll be making homemade shrubs so you can get a healthy flavored soda.”

Over time, Goldstein plans to incorporate more elements of a traditional Jewish deli. This would include cold-cut sandwiches, bulk deli meat, deli salads, matzo ball soup, and classic pastries like black and white cookies.

“I kind of want people to be able to come in and get their sandwich on a Saturday morning and then be like, you know what, I’m just going to get the cold cuts, cheese, and bagels for the week here,” Goldstein said.

Goldstein’s Bagels and Bialys will have both indoor and outdoor seating. Customers will order at the counter.

Goldstein is hoping to open in May or June of this year.
