Here is a list of Top Scholars of the 2021-2022 graduating class for schools in Oakland County.

CHLOE ANTAKLI

Academy of the Sacred Heart

Parents: Denise Antakli and J. John Antakli

Pontiac

A 4.0 student at Academy of the Sacred Heart, Chloe was named a salutatorian of her graduating class. She plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, majoring in Economics. Chloe discovered Economics in her junior year and enrolled in AP Microeconomics as a senior.

Chloe participated in varsity travel soccer, and was captain of the high school soccer team. Along with her team, she achieved honors including All-State Third Team, All Catholic, All Regional Team, All District Team and 4-year Varsity athlete. Chloe has been a Blue and Gold Club leader.

She was Junior Class Vice President during the pandemic, and worked with her leaders to find ways for her class to connect in meaningful ways and helped to spearhead a new, and highly successful, fundraiser. As a member of the Captains Club all four years of high school, Chloe helped to plan Pep Rallies, Field Days and supported the athletics program across the board.

MARISA NAFSO

Academy of the Sacred Heart

With a 4.0 GPA at Academy of the Sacred Heart, Marisa was named a salutatorian of her graduating class. She plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis in the fall, studying Pre-Med. Marisa succeeded in balancing a challenging curriculum with a hectic schedule of leadership, service and athletics.

She was elected as the All-School Representative, the voice of students in all matters and the highest student position. Due to changes at Sacred Heart this year, Marisa took on even greater responsibility and worked over the summer helping the Dean of Girls organize new student spaces and host New Student Orientation.

Beginning in her sophomore year, Marisa stepped up as a student leader for the school’s monthly Focus:HOPE food delivery project, a role that she continues to fill. Marisa promoted the service days, making sure that all volunteers had permission slips on file and rides both to and from the service site. In addition to playing tennis for the varsity team, Marisa also competed independently throughout the year.

CHARLOTTE CAROZZA

Academy of the Sacred Heart

A 4.036 student at Academy of the Sacred Heart, Charlotte was named co-valedictorian of her graduating class. She plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, majoring in Physics. Charlotte enjoyed the relationships she had with her teachers and engaged in meaningful conversations.

Charlotte is constantly challenging herself, setting goals and creating plans to achieve them. During her sophomore year, she chose to study Environmental Science on her own on top of her full academic load. She sat for the AP Exam that spring and scored a 5 on a scale of 1 to 5.

She submitted a video about String Theory and another about CRISPR to the Breakthrough Junior Challenge Competition that encourages students to submit a three-minute video about a science or math topic.

Charlotte was an elected class officer, ran on the cross-country team, participated in forensics and wrote and designed layouts for the “Gazelle Gazette”. At home she practices the piano, works out, reads and creates with crafts. She is a talented artist and started a sticker business on Etsy. She spends her own money on supplies, creates the artwork for her designs and manages the marketing.

ISABELLE BURG

Academy of the Sacred Heart

A 4.036 GPA student at Academy of the Sacred Heart, Isabelle was named co-valedictorian of her graduating class. She plans to attend Vanderbilt University, School of engineering: Biomedical engineering in the fall.

Isabelle takes advantage of any opportunity she is given, especially if it involves math and science as it will prepare her for a career as an Orthopedic surgeon. Over the last two summers, Isabelle has participated in college programming specifically focusing on the field of medicine.

During the school year, Isabelle practiced tennis two-three hours a day, six days a week and competed in tournaments every other weekend.

She played on the school’s varsity team each spring while playing year-round as an individual. Over the last two years, she has served as Student Club Coordinator. This season, she joined the cross-country team because they needed more members to qualify as a team.

KATRINA KORENDIY

A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School

A 4.0 student at A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School, Katrina was named to the Administrator’s List and received a diploma and recognition of high excellence. She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall with the goal of entering medical school.

During high school, Katrina received a STEM certificate, and was president of the school’s National Honor Society and a member of the Science National Honor Society.

She participated in Robotics and  Automotive. She was a teacher’s assistant, a MyLead volunteer, Be My Eyes volunteer and she participated in the high school newspaper club. Katrina also achieved a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

HAGOP ALAJAJIAN

A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School

A 4.0 student at A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School, Hagop was an AP Scholar with Honor and a First Robotics Dean’s List National finalist. Hagop plans to attend Princeton University in the fall with a major in engineering and pursue becoming an entrepreneur with a startup business.

During school, Hagop has been an Automation Engineering Mechanic, Student Council president and was the school’s National Honor Society Vice President. Hagop was also a Lawrence Tech University researcher and participated in Math Club. Hagop received memorable mention in the 1455 Teen Poetry Contest and is one of two Honorable Mentions for the William Faulkner Literary Competition (Poetry).

AURORA SOUSANIS

Berkley High School

With a 4.4 weighted and 4.0 unweighted GPA at Berkley High School, Aurora is not only a scholar, but she is an athlete and musician as well. She will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall to study writing and journalism. herquinn

Aurora lettered in both basketball and tennis and led her team to winning districts in basketball. In addition, she was the first chair in the Symphony Orchestra and was one of the lead performers in the fall play.

PAIGE THWING

Brandon High School

A 4.33 student, Paige was co-ranked #1, co-valedictorian for the Brandon High School Class of 2022. Paige is planning on either attending Grand Valley or Michigan State University in the fall with a pre-dental intention, with plans to open her own orthodontic practice.

During high school, Paige played basketball and captained the varsity golf and track teams. She was the clarinet section leader in the marching band and a part of the Brandon Future Problem Solvers team.

She is very passionate about the STEM program, through which she competed in and made it to the National Bridge Competition in both her freshman and senior years. In her free time, she travels up north and goes sailing with her family.

A 4.33 student, Aubrey was named co-valedictorian for the Brandon High School Class of 2022. Aubrey plans on attending either Michigan State University or the University of Michigan in the fall to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.

While in high school, Aubrey played varsity volleyball and was captain of the varsity soccer team. She was Vice President of the school’s National Honor Society, a state qualifier in Business Professionals of America, and a member of Link Crew. She also was a part of the STEM Honors Program. In her free time, she spends time outdoors, visits with family and friends, and travels.

Brandon High School

A 4.31 student at  Brandon High School, Sarah was named Salutatorian for her graduating class. Sarah will be attending the University of Colorado, Boulder in the fall to pursue a degree in Biophysics, and apply to medical school with plans to become a pediatric surgeon.

While in high school Sarah was a competitive gymnast and a state champion. In her spare time, she travels and spends time with friends.

Brother Rice High School

With a 4.39 GPA, Romas was named Co-Valedictorian at Brother Rice. He plans to attend the University of Notre Dame and in the future he hopes to become a doctor to help save lives.

He has taken 15 Honors classes and 9 AP classes and is a consistent A Honor Roll student.

His activities include Band of Brothers Group Leader, Eagle Scout for the Lithuanian Boy Scouts, member of the jazz band, played soccer for BRHS and the Liverpool club and caddies at Bloomfield Hills Country Club. He was a member of the track team, National Honor Society

Latin Honor Society, nominee for the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Athletic Award (soccer) and a Student Ambassador.

With a GPA of 4.39 Christian was named Co-Valedictorian at Brother Rice. He will be attending the University of Michigan and has strategically selected courses to be best prepared for a pre-med, neurosurgical program in college. Has taken 13 Honors and 10 AP classes and is a consistent A Honor Roll student.

His awards include the National Merit Commended, President of the Medical club, National Honor Society, President of Spanish Honor Society. He was the Band of Brothers Captain, Student Ambassador, member of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).

Participated in a medical mission trip to Costa Rica and active in several outreach programs including Hope Clinic.

Matthew has taken 12 Honors classes and 10 AP classes and is a consistent A Honor roll student. While attending Brother Rice he was a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the 2021 State championship golf team, Captain of the golf team, nominee for the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Athletic Award (golf) Mentor, coach and referee for youth basketball.

ABIGAIL MYREN

A 4.3229 student at Clawson High School, Abigail was named Valedictorian, summa cum laude of her graduating class. She plans to attend Ursinus College of Pennsylvania in the fall to study Neuroscience.

Abigail received a Zacharias Honor Scholarship and a PTSA Scholarship. She was named a Clawson High School Top Ten and was named to the Dean’s List at Oakland Community College. She also received AP honors and the CASA Award of Excellence in Japanese 1 and 2.

She received Department Honors in English, Math, Link for Success, Orchestra and Social Studies.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, Trojan Leadership Council, Varsity Softball, Varsity Volleyball and Marching Band Color Guard. Abigail is a volunteer counselor for the Junior Trojan Volleyball Camp and Youth Softball Camp/Clinic, and volunteered for set design for high school plays.

She received a Wildcat Merit Scholarship and a PTSA Scholarship. Elizabeth was named a Clawson High School Top Ten and was named to the Dean’s List at Oakland Community College.

She also received Department Honors in Band, English, Link for Success, Math and Social Studies. She received the John Philip Sousa Band Award, CASA  Award of Excellence in Japanese 1 and 2, Application of Genetics, AP Calculus B, C. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Trojan Leadership Council, Marching Band, Varsity Softball and Varsity Volleyball.

Elizabeth is a volunteer counselor for the Junior Trojan Volleyball Camp and Youth Softball Camp/Clinic, and volunteered for set design for high school plays.

A 4.905 student at Catholic Central High School, Jonah received the Scholastic All-Catholic award and Gabriel Richard honors. He plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, majoring in environmental engineering and business.

During high school, Jonah was honored as the Junior Business Student of the year and was awarded 1st place in Plant Sciences at the Detroit science fair. Jonah was Chapter President of DECA, Chapter Officer of HOSA (Future Health Professionals), Alex’s Lemonade Stand Ambassador and a member of the National Honors Society. He enjoys cooking, walking dogs and gardening.

NEIL YITAO ZHU

A 4.889 student at Catholic Central High School, Neil received numerous honors including National Merit Commended Student, National Honor Society, AP Scholar with Honor, and Gabriel Richard Honors for Superior Academic Achievements. Neil plans to attend Swarthmore College in the fall, majoring in Computer Science and playing golf.

During high school, Neil was a member of the Varsity Golf Team and played Competitive Junior Golf. He was honored with D1 All-State First Team, and honored as individual by Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association and Scholastic All Catholic Team, honored as a top achieving student by MI Catholic High School League. He was Varsity Team Captain during his senior year and as a junior, he was 2nd in state finals.

Neil was a member of the Finance Club and was Vice President his senior year, and taught finance to members. He has 10 years of piano education and competed at state level. Neil is an active volunteer. He was an after-school tutor for the National Honor Society Tutoring Program. He packaged food for Gleaners Community Food Banks of SE Michigan and was a volunteer data processing clerk. He has contributed 10 years of Sunday service at Chinese Gospel Church.

SATYAK KHARE

Farmington High School

With an unweighted GPA of 3.975 and a weighted GPA of 4.5938 at Farmington High School, Satyak also had a very high SAT composite score of 1530. In the fall, Satyak plans to attend the University of Michigan College of Engineering.

During high school, Satyak was a member of the IB Leadership Group and was a Business Professionals of America National and State Competition Qualifier. Satyak won 1st place in the National Stock Trading Contest and placed in the Top 6 at HOSA (Future Health Professionals) state conference. Satyak tutored students for the district and also raised more than $1,000 for a local hospital.

HAMMAD TANOLI

Farmington High School

With an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighted GPA of 4.6 at Farmington High School, Hammad also had a very high SAT composite score of 1570. Hammad plans to pursue a bachelor of science degree in Neuroscience at Wayne State University and study the Islamic Sciences.

During high school, Hammad was a 2021 Simons Summer Research Program Fellow, a 2022 National Merit Scholarship Winner, HOSA (Future Health Professionals) Epidemiology State Conference winner and was a Varsity Quiz Bowl Member.

Hammad was president for the Farmington High School Muslim Student Association and Model United Nations and served as a Farmington Public Schools Student Round Table representative and Secretary and Transportation Chair for Michigan Muslim Youth Council. Hammad has also been a volunteer at Beaumont Hospital-Farmington Hills.

LEAH PHILLIPS

Frankel Jewish Academy

With a 4.02 weighted GPA at Frankel Jewish Academy, Leah is a Rabbi Eric Grossman Scholarship recipient. Leah is interested in pursuing the field of Biology, Genetics and Epigenetics at the University of Michigan.

Leah participated in the school’s student government and served as Class President during her freshman and sophomore years, and  also served as the senior class student government representative. She was chosen as the only freshman to serve on the Frankel Jewish Academy Education Re-envisioning Team (ERT) leadership team, which included school administration and three other students who represented their specific grade level. Leah also served on the FJA Return to Learn Committee. When the pandemic hit this committee was created to discern the needs of students and faculty and assist in developing a return to school plan.

During her junior year, Leah volunteered to plant a community garden to grow food to donate in the local community. She has participated in athletics and was Varsity Volleyball Team Captain during her senior year. She participated in non-school programs including a summer photography class at Michigan Tech, a field program in biology at the University of Michigan and a program on Epigenetics at Harvard University. She has participated in drama club table readings at school and the anime club, and is studying Korean.

BENJAMIN “BENJI” SCHMELTZ

Frankel Jewish Academy

Benjamin has an unweighted GPA of 3.99 and a weighted GPA of 4.22 at Frankel Jewish Academy.

Benji plans to attend the University of Michigan. He has worked as a hockey referee from 2018 to the present for USA Hockey, Great Lakes Hockey Officials, Motor City Stripes.

Benji volunteers for numerous organizations including Midicha of Fenton, Visiting Elderly, B’nai Israel Synagogue of West Bloomfield Twp., Teen Action Council Member, JARC. He organized a 3v3 Basketball tournament fundraiser for local high schoolers to raise money for various foundations and charities (Yad Ezra food bank, Friends of the IDF, and more)

Benji volunteered to tutor children with developmental disabilities. He also volunteered to assist children with mental disabilities at Camp Ramah in Canada Tikvah Program.

Benji earned second place in the International Technion Robotraffic Competition, March 2021. He brainstormed, created, and presented a product to enhance driving safety at an international competition.

In sports, Benji was All-Catholic award winner for soccer  in his sophomore year and team captain his senior year. He participated in ice hockey from 2010-2019 and played baseball on the varsity team all through high school and was Team MVP for freshman season and All-Catholic award winner during his  junior year.

JADE RYBINSKI

Hazel Park High School

A 4.01 student at Hazel Park High School, Jade was named Valedictorian of her graduating class. Jade plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall.
During high school, she enrolled in AP English, AP Statistics, and AP Government classes. Jade maintained an active role in extracurricular activities all four years of high school including participating in student council, volleyball, softball, National Honor Society, as president during junior and senior year, student advisory committee, and the state student advisory committee.

International Academy

A 4.0 student at International Academy, Abigail is one of the valedictorians. has received numerous honors and awards including the United States Senate Youth Program Finalist, Coca-Cola Scholarship Semifinalist, University of Michigan Math and Science Scholar and Brandies University Book Award Winner for Social Action and Civic Engagement.

In the fall, Abigail plans to study Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with a minor in Public Policy at the University of Michigan’s LSA Honors Program. In addition, she hopes to pursue a PhD for a career in scientific research focusing on epigenetics and public health.

Abigail is a Women Empowered Graduate of Gracie University of Jiu Jitsu.

She served as Chief of Staff and Policy Analyst for the 19th District County Commission (of Oakland County), Youth President of National Organization for Women’s Oakland/Macomb Chapter, Co-Chair of NARAL Pro-choice America’s Michigan Action Council and Co-President National Honors Society.

ANDREEA BEU

International Academy

Parents: Alina and Claudiu Beu

With a 4.38 weighted GPA, Andreea is one of the valedictorians at the International Academy. In the fall, she plans to attend the University of Michigan to pursue Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish, on the pre-med track.

Throughout high school, she completed research on COVID-19 and schizophrenia with MiRcore, volunteered at a nursing and rehabilitation center, co-founded school’s pre-med club, worked alongside the Helping Hands: ASFSM non-profit organization, and played on the Varsity Tennis team.

She is a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society, and has received the honors of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Rensselaer Medalist, and National Merit Finalist.

JESSICA ZHANG

International Academy

Jessica has a weighted 4.41 GPA and an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and one of the valedictorians at International Academy. In the fall, she plans to attend the University of Michigan and pursue a major in computer science with a minor in business through the LSA Honors program.

Jessica is a Coca-Cola Scholars Semifinalist and National Merit Finalist.

Throughout high school, her main extracurriculars consisted of Key Club and Michigan Youth Empowerment Foundation’s Youth Leadership Committee. She held the position of co-president for both activities.

Additionally, she took part in the National Honors Society, French Honors Society, and played volleyball and tennis for Rochester High School’s JV and Varsity teams.

In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Claire is one of the valedictorians and participated in Chemistry Club, Winter Running Club, German Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society at the International Academy and ran varsity cross-country and track for four years for Clawson High School.

Claire will be attending the College of LSA at the University of Michigan next fall and plans to pursue an Earth and Environmental Sciences major.

She was also a National Merit finalist, received International Academy’s departmental award in History, and was a MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award semi-finalist.

LEAH SIMAKAS

International Academy

Lake Orion

With a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.4 weighted GPA at International Academy, Leah is one of the valedictorians and was also engaged in many extracurricular activities. She plans to pursue a Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Michigan to lead to a career in the development of renewable energy sources.

Leah was a captain of the Robotics team, co-president of her school’s Jewish Student Association, as well as a member of the board of the French Honor Society and the Chemistry Club.

She received a number of awards, including a Bloomfield Hills Optimist Club Certificate of Recognition, an Orion Area Youth Assistance Recognition for her volunteer work, and was a Robotics Dean’s List Award Finalist.

ANGELA XU

International Academy

Rochester

Throughout high school at International Academy, Angela maintained an unweighted 4.0 and weighted 4.41 GPA. She is one of the valedictorians. After graduation, she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and hopes to work as a financial analyst or consultant in the future.

During high school, Angela  was named a National Merit Scholar Finalist. She participated in the Varsity Science Olympiad, was on the board of Asian Student Association, and served as editor of the school’s yearbook.

ELIZABETH VETTRAINO

International Academy

Rochester

With an unweighted 4.0 and a weighted 4.386 GPA and one of the valedictorians at International Academy, Elizabeth has also been involved in several extracurricular activities and held a part time job throughout high school. She plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, to study psychology and sport management.

Elizabeth served on the Rochester Area Neighborhood House Executive Youth Board and was an active member of the Spanish Honors Society and the National Honor Society.

ASHLEA NWABUEZE

International Academy

With an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighted GPA of 4.3793 and a valedictorian at Okma International Academy, Ashlea was also engaged in many extracurricular activities. She plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania for the seven-year Bio-Dent Program.

Ashlea played high school and travel volleyball, participated in National Honor Society, volunteered at Auburn Hills Summer Camp, was a math lab tutor, and plays the piano. She was a Peer Corps mentor, a board member of the French Honor Society and R.A.R.E Club,

She received the French Award in her junior year and the Math Analysis Award for her school in her senior year..

SHANNON SCHULTE

International Academy

With a 4.0 unweighted and 4.41 weighted GPA at International Academy and one of the valedictorians, Shannon was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities including being president of Economics Club.She plans to pursue a dual degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and Communications and Media at the University of Michigan in the fall. From there she plans to go to law school to become a lawyer.

During high school, Shannon participated in Mock Trial, and was a class officer. She also participated in Cross Country at Royal Oak High School and was honored as a National Merit Finalist and Scholar.

CAROLINE MICHALAK

International Academy

Caroline achieved a 4.0 unweighted and 4.37 weighted GPA at International Academy and one of the valedictorians.

She plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall to study biology on a pre-med track.

During high school, Caroline has been an avid competitive figure skater and active violinist of her school’s Symphony Orchestra, earning concertmaster her senior year. Additionally, she has also participated in National Honor Society and was a board member of Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also held a high school summer internship at Ford Motor Company.

AKSHARA KARTHIK

International Academy

Akshara was named valedictorian, summa cum laude of her graduating class at International Academy Central. She plans to attend the University of Michigan through the College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts (LSA) Honors Program. She plans to major in either Public Health or International Studies (with a sub-major in Global Environment and Health) and minor in Biology, on the pre-med track.

Akshara is a National Merit Scholar and Coca-Cola Scholarship semi-finalist. Throughout high school, she has had various leadership roles in school clubs, nonprofit organizations, and honors societies. These commitments have allowed Akshara to pursue her passions in service, public speaking and medical research.

NICOLE SCHMIDT

International Academy

Bloomfield Hills

Nicole had an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighted GPA of 4.3158 at International Academy and one of  the valedictorians. In the fall, she plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and pursue a degree in either computer science, chemical engineering, or aerospace.

Nicole was a captain of the Science Olympiad team and a board member of the following clubs: Math Lab, Chemistry Club, Physics Help Club, and Programming Club. Other clubs she participated in include the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Nicole is also a National Merit Finalist, received an honorable mention for her participation in the Local Chemistry Olympiad exam, participated in the Michigan All State Concert Band, and was nominated for the MSBOA Spring Honors Band Festival.

ERIN WILLIAMS

International Academy

Parents: Marco and Chontelle Williams

Bloomfield Hills

Erin had a 4.0 GPA at International Academy and one of the valedictorians. She has been involved in many extracurricular activities. She plans to attend Brown University as a part of their Program in Liberal Medical Education, an eight-year medical program. Erin aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon and work for an NFL team of her choosing.

During high school, she served as captain of the Peer Corps Club, was a class officer for four years, and currently serves as a student advisor to the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education.

Erin has volunteered at Beaumont Royal Oak, and tutors chess to elementary school students in Royal Oak.

LAUREN KAUPPILA

International Academy

Lauren had an unweighted GPA of 4.0 at International Academy. She said she is currently undecided on her major, but excited about the future and one of the valedictorians.

Lauren is a German Honor Society officer, a class officer, and a four-year member of the Phoenix Theater Club. Additionally, she has worked as a barista and participated in several community service activities.

MORGAN COOK

International Academy

West Bloomfield Twp.

With an unweighted GPA of 4.0 at International Academy and one of the valedictorians, Morgan has also done a great deal of community service work including serving on the Jewish Federation Teen Board (reviewing and awarding grants); as Social Action Vice President of her Temple’s Youth Group; weekly work with Accent Pontiac; IA Peer Corps; and as election poll worker. She plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall. She has also held part-time jobs at Stage Deli and Premier Pet Supply.

KILEY VON BERNTHAL

International Academy

With an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and named as one of the valedictorians at International Academy, Kiley was also involved in ModelUN, BuildON, Science Olympiad, and founded the Life 101 club. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in the fall.

She has been presented with the Presidential Service Award several years in a row and has also participated in the Michigan Math and Science Scholars program. She also held a part-time job at Dairy Queen during high school.

ZACHARY PETRYCIA

Lake Orion High School

With a 4.48 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Zachary received honors including the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, AP Scholar award and the Oakland Area Youth Leadership Award for volunteer work. Zachary plans to attend Oakland University in the fall to major in Mechanical Engineering with interest in the environment and clean energy.

During high school, Zachary participated in varsity soccer, varsity track, and was a member of the hockey team. He completed his Eagle Scout project of cleaning up and painting the Oxford/Orion FISH building, He was also a volunteer coach for youth hockey and volunteered at a local library.

SANIA HASAN

With a 4.54 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Sania was honored with the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, AP Scholar with Distinction and the National Merit Letter of Commendation. Sania plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, majoring in Biochemistry.

During high school, Sania was president of Key Club where she organized and managed a supply drive for Children’s Hospital in Troy. She was co-president of Science National Honor Society. She was also a member of National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, English National Honor Society, and the Rho Kappa National Honor Society. She volunteered at the local middle school and earned a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.

ALINA MEHDI

With a 4.56 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Alina received honors including the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, AP Scholar with Distinction and the Scholar Athlete Award.

Alina plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall with a major in Neuroscience.

During high school, Alina was president of the Math National Honor Society and historian for the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Science National Honor Society, the Rho Kappa National Honor Society and an officer of the Cultural Outreach Club. She was a member of the tennis team and volunteered as a math tutor.

NOAH WATT

A 4.42 student at Lake Orion High School, Noah was honored with the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, AP Scholar, OAA Scholar Athlete Award, and Michigan Water Polo Association All Academic State Team.

Noah plans to attend either the University of Michigan or Michigan State University to major in Business.

During high school, Noah was a member of the Varsity Swim Team and Varsity Water Polo team.

Noah volunteered with the high school girls swim and dive team, and volunteered to distribute food items to those in need from Forgotten Harvest. Noah also works as a lifeguard and teaches youth swim lessons.

ELISE JOSHUA

With a 4.53 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Elise was honored with the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll and AP Scholar with Distinction, National African American Recognition Program award and the National Rural and Small-Town Recognition award.

She plans to attend Yale or Stanford with a major in Ethics Politics and Economics, and African American Studies.

During high school, Elise participated in competitive dance. She was co-president of the Cultural Outreach Club, vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the National English Society, secretary of the Courageous Conversations Club and a member of Students Offering Support.

She was also a member of Key Club and volunteered at a local elementary school, performed volunteer work for Blight Busters, volunteered for 300 for 300, and volunteered at probate court.

SYDNEY PETERS

Lake Orion High School

With a 4.40 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Sydney received honors including the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, AP Scholar, Scholar Athlete Award and National Commendation from College Board. Sydney plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall.

During high school, Sydney was executive board secretary and member of the Leadership Development Workshop (similar to student council). Sydney was a member of National Honor Society, Ro Kappa National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, and a member of the group Students Offering Support.

She also volunteered to distribute food items to those in need from Forgotten Harvest,

Sydney is currently working as a receptionist at a local salon.

HONG BING TANG

With a 4.47 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Hong Bing was honored with the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll and AP Scholar with Honors. Hong Bing plans to attend Central Michigan University in the fall to study Computer Science

Hong Bing was a member of the track and cross-country teams and was named All League.

He was president of the National Honor Society, member of the Science National Honor Society, the English National Honor Society, and the Math National Honor Society. He has been a Boy Scout since 3rd grade and working towards Eagle Scout rank. He volunteered at Orion/Oxford FISH, volunteered at a local middle school for the Bully Busters program and volunteered at the Lake Orion Band Festival.

ALAYNA TISCH

With a 4.59 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Alayna received honors including the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll, Academic Allstate for Track, and the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit Award. Alayna plans to attend Michigan State University, majoring in Economics.

During high school, she was co-president of the Science National Honor Society, co-president of the English National Honor Society and a member of the Math National Honor Society. She was captain of the cross-country team and a member of the track team. Alayna also volunteered at a middle school for the Bully Buster program, was a member and volunteer of Key Club.

With a 4.46 GPA at Lake Orion High School, Carter was honored with the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above and Honor Roll. Carter plans to attend Michigan State University Area, with a major in Medicine.

During high school, Carter participated in power lifting, and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Math National Honor Society. Carter also volunteered at The Church of the Straights and the Woodside Bible Church.

TONY JANNETTE

With a 4.44 GPA, Tony received honors including the Lamp of Learning for GPA 3.5 and above, Honor Roll and AP Scholar with Distinction award. Tony plans to attend the University of Michigan, majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

Tony was a member of the track and cross-country team throughout high school.

He volunteered at the local library helping with events and shelving books and volunteered at a Snow 5K event. Tony works part-time at Willow Creek Country Club.

KAITLYN DUGAN

Lamphere High School

Madison Heights

A 4.08 student at Lamphere High School, Kaitlyn was involved in numerous extracurricular activities including Varsity Golf Team, National Honor Society, Travel Volleyball, Link Leader, president of the Interact Club, vice president of Student Council and playing the flute.

Kaitlyn was honored as Number 1 in the class, as MAC Scholar, and received honors recognition in many classes. Kaitlyn plans to attend Eastern Michigan University in the fall.

GRANT MARTINEZ

Lamphere High School

Warren

A 4.0 student at Lamphere High School, Grant participated in marching band, jazz band, Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra, Motor City Jazz Band and Oakland Youth Orchestra Brass Ensemble. Grant plans to attend Oakland University in the fall.

Grant was honored as Number 2 in the class and also was named to the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association Honors Band and the MSBOA All-State Band.

MATTHEW GUNN

Lutheran High School Northwest

Troy

A 4.225 student, Matthew was named valedictorian at Lutheran High School Northwest. Matthew was honored with awards in STEM, Lutheran High School Northwest Leadership Award and Responsibility Award, and  MIAC All Academic.

An all-round athlete, he participated in baseball, basketball, football and cross country. Matthew was a member of Leadership Cohort, National Honor Society and served as freshmen mentor.
