World Jewish Congress Condemns Inherent Bias of UNHRC Commission of Inquiry Report Against Israel, Released on Shavuot

GENEVA/NEW YORK—The World Jewish Congress strongly condemns the report by the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Commission of Inquiry, released on the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.
The so-called findings presented continues the Commission’s long-standing pattern of bias against Israel that was evident from its inception during a period of Hamas rocket attacks targeting civilians in 2021. On top of past antisemitic comments from commission officials, this is further proof that this politicized body ought to be disbanded immediately.
This report, an egregious attempt to rationalize the atrocities carried out by Hamas on October 7th, grossly misrepresents the facts and fails to acknowledge the decades-long campaign of terrorism against the Israeli people.
The assertion of moral equivalence between the actions of Israel’s military and the activities of Hamas is particularly damaging to the foundations of international order. Such false equivalencies undermine the reality that Hamas is a recognized terrorist organization openly committed to the destruction of Israel, while Israel, a democratic state, adheres to international law and has robust legal mechanisms to investigate and address any alleged misconduct.
All efforts of the international community should be focused on calling for the unconditional return of the hostages held by Hamas. Their release would surely de-escalate the conflict.
