Police officers are trying to locate the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman in Harlem on Sunday evening before fleeing the scene.
According to police sources, authorities received a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on the northbound lanes of the Harlem River Drive at High Bridge at about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.
Officers from the 33rd Precinct rushed to the scene to discover an adult female lying on the ground suffering severe head trauma.
Following a preliminary investigation, police say that the victim had climbed over the barrier and entered the roadway when she was struck by the driver of a dark-colored sedan, sending her hurtling to the pavement. Cops said the driver did not remain on scene and left the area.
The victim, whose age and identity has yet to be determined, was rushed to Harlem Hospital by EMS, but she could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
While her identity has yet to be officially determined, sources familiar with the investigation report that the victim is known to police in the area as a local drug user.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
