Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a trailer for an upcoming World War II historical drama titled Escape from Germany, which tells the story of the Mormon Missionaries who were evacuated from Western Germany in 1939, only days before the Nazi invasion of Poland.
The missionaries were trapped inside German borders as Hitler raced to invade Poland. The last one got out and into Denmark on August 31. The next day Germany invaded Poland and the war began.
The synopsis reads: “Hitler’s army was rapidly closing borders in August of 1939 while 85 American missionaries were serving their church inside Germany. As the German military preparations escalated, word came to speedily move those LDS missionaries to safety.
“Taken from the personal diaries of those missionaries, this riveting story is a testimony that God truly leads and protects His servants, opens doors for them, and provides timely inspiration.
“The harrowing escape of these missionaries from Nazi Germany as WWII started is one of the most remarkable but little-known events in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.”
The film was directed by T.C. Christensen and the cast includes Paul Wuthrich, David Shawn McConnell, Landon Henneman, Sebastian Barr, Henning Fischer, Kevin Kirshemann, Whitney Palmer, and Brad Witbeck.
Goldwyn Films will release the film on August 2nd, 2024.
