Kevin Feige Explains Hugh Jackman’s Return to Wolverine Is Proof Robert Downey Jr. Can Return as Iron Man — GeekTyrant

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man died saving the universe in Avengers: Endgame, fans have feared that Marvel would bring him back and ruin his legacy in the MCU.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige isn’t counting out the possibility of bringing Downey Jr. back as Tony Stark, and he even believes that Hugh Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine is proof that it can be done.

During an interview with DiscussingFilm, Feige was asked about the possibility of Downey Jr. and Chris Evans returning to the MCU.

Feige explained: “That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine.”

He continued: “So, what’s to come? We’ll see. We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [‘Deadpool & Wolverine’] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken.”

When previously talking about Iron Man’s death and bringing Jackman back, Feige said: “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” Feige said at the time about Iron Man’s death. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

As for what Downey Jr. thinks about all this, he said: “It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.”

He added: “That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

When it comes to these Marvel movies, we’ve come to learn that anything is possible. If they ever do bring Downey Jr. or Evans back into the fold, it would have to be for something spectacular!
