The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that the popular superhero series will come to an end with the upcoming fifth season.
Kripke shared the news on X, saying: “Season 5 will be the Final Season!. Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, ‘cause the end has begun!”
The showrunner previously talked about closing the series out at Season 5, referencing Supernatural which was initially supposed to run for five seasons, but it ended up closing out on Season 15.
He said: “I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go.
He added: “Someone pointed that out to me and I was like, ‘You’re right. That’s ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.’ And so I will.”
Kripke then amusing poked fun at himself saying: “No one was more wrong in all of human history about how many seasons their show was going to go than this guy.”
“So I am not going to make that same mistake twice. Guinness World Record of who is dumbest about how long their show should go, there would literally be a picture of me.”
The Boys creative team is currently working on Season 5, and in regard to that Kripke said: “We’re about a month into the writers’ room right now, so we have some pretty cool notions.”
He continued: “It’s a very raw lava-esque deal right now. It hasn’t hardened into anything, but I’m excited. I think there’s some crazy shit’s been talked about, that’s for sure.”
In season four, “The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power.”
“Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”
Eric Kripke previously teased that this season, “miiiiiiight be the batshit craziest thing we’ve ever done? Like I truly can’t believe we got away with it.”
The Boys Season 4 premieres on Prime Video on June 13.
