New BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE Photo and Michael Keaton Talks About the “Surreal” Experience of Returning to the Role — GeekTyrant

We’ve got a new photo to share with you from Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice featuring a great shot of Michael Keaton back as the Ghost with the Most.

The image comes from Empire, and Keaton talked about his “surreal” experience jumping back into the shoes of this character again all these years later.

When talking about the pop-culture aspect of things, he said: “There’s been so much merchandising of it, I had to drop back to where it started. I had to go, ‘What was my unusual imagination even thinking about when I was developing it in the first place?’ As opposed to seeing a coffee mug or a golf-club cover [adorned with Betelgeuse’s face].”

He went on to admit: “That was f–king weird. To be honest with you – I’m being very frank – it was off-putting, to look and go, ‘I don’t want to look like all these little things, f–k that – what was the thing that started this?’”

Keaton then talked about the movie, saying: “I absolutely love this thing. And I don’t [usually] talk like that. I unabashedly love this. It was not easy to pull off, and I think we did it in spades.”

Burton then chimed in to discuss working with Keaton: “It was like he was possessed by a demon, because he just went right back into it.”

Co-star Catherine O’Hara added: “It was insane, Insane. It was like an animal with a gun had just walked into the room. To watch him physically change and appear and Michael Keaton to be gone, and for me to be dealing with this Betelgeuse guy… it blew my mind.”

In the film, “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.”

“With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

The family tragedy is confirmed to be the death of Charles Deetz, and you can all thank Lydia’s daughter for bringing Beetlejuice back.

Michael Keaton is joined by Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, O’Hara as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix films), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Willem Dafoe as a B-movie action star who died and became a police officer in the Afterlife.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday and Smallville) wrote the script along with an earlier draft by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith are also producing. Danny Elfman is returning to compose the score.

Beetlejuice Beetljuice is set to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
