Some rumored story details for Marvel’s Thunderbolts* movie have been shared online, and if the info is legit, it gives us an idea of what we can expect from the film’s setup.
There’s nothing too revealing about the story, it’s basically the setup of the film and something that would be included in a trailer, but I’m still going to throw up a spoiler warning just in case.
This latest information comes from reliable scooper Daniel Richtman, and he says the story will kick off with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) being sent by Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to take out an unknown target “in a vault.”
There’s no word on who the target is, but in the middle of the mission, the crew realizes that they were sent there to be killed themselves, and and after escaping the ordeal, they decide to team-up to take down Val.
As for Sentry (Lewis Pullman), Red Guardian (David Harbour) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will fit into the story, that information has not been shared, but it’s easy to imagine how they might end up becoming involved.
It was previously reported that Thunderbolts* is “just a Black Widow sequel the same way Civil War was a Captain America sequel… Yelena’s handling Red Room remnants and then gets sidetracked with Thunderbolts*.”
The film is being directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Kidding) and was written by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) and Kurt Busiek.
Thunderbolts* is currently set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
