Fun New Trailer for LISA FRANKENSTEIN Captures the Spirit of Classic ’80s Teen Movies — GeekTyrant

Focus Features has released a full trailer for its upcoming coming-of-age horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein. This looks like a fun, playful, and unique take on the classic Frankenstein story that sets it in the ‘80s. In fact, I love the whole ‘80s vibe of the film, and this trailer captures the spirit of the high school teen comedies of that era.

Lisa Frankenstein comes from writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body) and director Zelda Williams, the daughter of Robin Williams. The movie stars Kathryn Newton (Freaky) as an unpopular high school teen who reanimates a corpse, played by Cole Sprouse (Riverdale), during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.

The film is described as “a coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.”

Williams is making her directorial debut with the film and has described it as a “bonkers, wonderful zombie” film. She added: “I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that! But it’s also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!”

The film also stars Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room).

Lisa Frankenstein comes to theaters on February 9, 2024.
