The Real World Inspirations Behind J.R.R. Tolkien’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS Explored in Video — GeekTyrant
I’ve got an interesting video here for you to watch from Weird History that takes a look back at the historical inspiration behind the classic J.R.R. Tolkien classic The Lord of the Rings novels. If you’re a hardcore Tolkien fan, then you probably know a lot of the information presented in this video, but if you’re just a fan of the films that were released, then there are most likely some cool things presented in the video that you’ll be learning for the first time.
The video explores how early Norse and Roman mythology influenced much of Tolkien’s writing along with the rise of fascism in Europe, Tolkien’s fascination with artifacts, his experience fighting in battle during World War I, and his desire for a British mythological history.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit adventure that preceded it are full-fledged mythologies and histories unto themselves…But the list of historical references in The Lord of the Rings is long and the impact of influences on his writings, including Norse mythology and Tolkien’s own WWI experiences, is undeniable.
